The Lack of Luxury

This entry shouldn't take long! It's about our one-off in Stockton, CA. The drive there was short enough but as is becoming the pattern, the hotel wasn't close to anything so eating becomes a problem. The theatre was beautiful from the inside in front of the proscenium but a nightmare behind. The wingspace was next to nil, one large dressing room all the girls shared which had monitors that didn't work so we never got our calls, no crossover space so in order to cross to the other side of the stage you had to go down this labyrinth of stairs and through the basement then up the other side. It made costume changes and quick scene changes a definite challenge. I was so assed up over everything that I had to put on my ipod and chill out so I didn't ruin my show or anyone else's. The PMS didn't help matters either! We also had a really tiny audience that didn't quite know what to think of our little show. Now when we got to the hotel we did lounge by the pool which was in need of skimming but the weather was beautiful. The laundry room sucked (we had to run the dryers for 2 cycles to get our clothes totally dry), the rooms were ghetto and I can only describe the beds as prison cots for midgets. The saving grace was that we only had one night there and that my dresser was decent. We had to readjust all kinds of staging to fit the tiny stage. I was shocked our set fit on it! I know this will not be the last small venue we play but oy I wish it were! The old Fox Theatre is now called the Bob Hope theatre. I've posted a lobby pic. It's really a lovely old theatre and the front of house is clearly well cared for.

I'll write about Reno on Tuesday or Wednesday. We have a one-off tonight in Medford, OR then two luxurious and badly needed days off here before we head back down to California. I'll have more time to blog then!
