Surprisingly Kentucky has been really good to us. Both dates here have been at beautiful venues, our hotels have been awesome, and we've been close to everything we could possibly need right by the hotel. We were also all thrilled to be somewhere for two whole nights after this crazy week of one-offs and to get to see the crew finally.
Our hotel, Country Inn Suites, has big fluffy down comforters and I really miss mine at home so I was excited about that. We have fridges and microwaves in our rooms and that's always a hit with us.
Saturday we arrived in the late afternoon and were happy to see a TJ Maxx across the street. We quickly changed out of our travel clothes (generally yoga pants and t shirts) and zipped over to do some shopping. I got an obnoxious pink and purple plaid hat (Will said I look like I'm hunting gay wabbits), a sweater and a top. I was excited to buy the smallest size top I've worn in over a dozen years! Then I met Ashley, Michelle, Dave P. and Adam at Friday's for an early dinner. I had an awesome grilled chicken salad and tea. We hopped the bus shortly after and drove to the theatre, the Four Rivers Center. This theatre is new and gorgeous! We kept asking if we could stay longer than our two days. Nice dressing rooms and the local crew was terrific. Jen decided to have a little fun with Erin's and my dressing room sign. She somehow located a day care sign and slipped it in behind our nametags. Smart ass!
After the show most of us went to Friday's for drinks and late dinner. We wanted to go to Texas Roadhouse but they were closed. We run into this problem a lot with the hours we keep. Those of you who do shows know all too well the after-show quandary of finding out what's still open, especially in smaller cities and towns. This time the service was crap and they were out of almost everything we tried to order. It literally took me a half hour and asking three times to get a glass of ice water! We ended up all getting $10 gift certificates to the place so they definitely tried to make amends and we weren't jerks about the problems we had so we were grateful for the gesture.
Sunday we got to sleep in a little. I awoke, however, to the sound of two housekeeping ladies yelling down the hall at one another. There was no argument, just the apparent need to have an extremely loud conversation at nine in the morning when every room on our floor had its "Do not disturb" sign on the damn door! Anyway, Erin, Jeff and I went to Friday's again for lunch to use our gift certificates since they were only good at this location. I had another salad and we were off to do the matinee. The theatre has this odd display of old locomotives on the side of the building. Not ones to miss a travel photo op, Erin and Chaz and I played on the train cars and took pics.
The matinee went very well and we had great houses both shows with about 1800 people each show. Sad to leave this awesome space, we came back to the hotel. James and I had made a date to watch the Steelers vs. Ravens championship game. James ended up with extra gift certs from Friday's so we went over there for dinner. Yes, this was my fourth meal there! We watched the first half and had a couple of beers then dashed back to the hotel to catch the second half as well as make an appearance at our latest theme party! See Colin (Dodger) missed his middle school dance Friday night and was kinda bummed out about it so Jen came up with the idea that this would be our next theme party and we'd surprise him with it! We love this kid so we thought that was an awesome idea. James and I had decided to go as a nerd boyfriend/girlfriend and put on a little show for everyone. Ashley was Sister Mary Catherine, the Vice Principal and the rest of us went as 7th graders. Michelle even wore a retainer! Ashley had made these funny little signs she posted around the room such as "When dancing, leave room for the Holy Spirit" and this one in the bathroom that Jeremiah, the kids' tutor, defaced! Alaggio dj'd the party, the girls kept going to the bathroom together to talk, we would pass messages to the boys through one another, we slow-danced awkwardly, and James and I performed our staged big break-up! Colin found all of this hilarious except we told him this is pretty much really truly what he was missing. My dances in junior high were always filled with drama just like this stuff. We had a great time!

After the "dance" we all splintered off. James and I watched the end of the football game (Go Steelers!!!), some folks went to the movies and some went to bed. I washed my bus linens as I had spilled a latte all over them a couple of days before (boo!). Then I hung out with James and Will in their room. It was then that I got a call from Mom to tell me she was at the hospital with my grandfather. She said she had not been able to wake him and that he was alive but unresponsive and probably in a coma. As of right now he's on heavy morphine, his heart and breathing are irregular, and due to his DNR order they have removed the oxygen. Grandpa is 87 and has said many times he's tired, not feeling well and ready to go. He has COPD and a lot of trouble breathing so he has been having to take tons of breathing treatments a day. I can only hope he goes in his sleep like he wishes to. So now we just wait and see.
Well, sorry to end on that note. We drive to Columbia, MO tomorrow for a show on Tuesday but for tomorrow we just travel and we're stopping for lunch at the St. Louis arch. We've passed the damn thing so many times in our travels over the months that Clare decided we deserved to get to stop there. I'm sure I'll have plenty of pics for you all soon!
