So I left off with us ending the show in Great Falls, Montana. We had voted a while back, knowing this would be a long trip to Owensboro, Kentucky, to travel for "a couple of hours" after the Great Falls show. We grabbed a quick bite to eat across the street from the theatre and hopped on the bus FOR SIX HOURS!!! We arrived in Billings, Montana stinky from the show, angry and exhausted. We got to luxuriate in our hotel rooms for all of three hours before having to get back on the bus. This time we rode from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 a.m., all the while I was having horrendous and constant asthma attacks that would not be taken care of by my rescue inhaler. This happens occasionally and usually I use my nebulizer machine at home and am good after a couple of days but I couldn't locate my portable nebulizer when packing for the tour so I was screwed. We arrived in Sioux City, Iowa and I hopped right in the hotel shuttle to be taken to the ER for treatment. Luckily the ER was deserted and the doctor listened to me when I told him what I needed. After a nebulizer treatment the shuttle picked me up and took me to a 24 hour Walgreen's to have $60 of presrciptions filled and then to the hotel finally where my roommate was asleep already. This super special hotel contained more mystery pubes in my bathroom and a front wall made of GLASS that was covered only by some flimsy drape. It was the strangest thing I've ever seen. I showered and settled in for another three hours of sleep before getting up, repacking and eating a supremely crappy continental breakfast with eggs that were a consistency not found in nature. We hopped back on the bus and finally arrived in Owensboro, KY about 11:00. We were thankful to be spending two nights in this lovely hotel that was clean and nice and had awesome beds. I was breathing a lot better as well and the weather was so much warmer so we were really grateful. The next morning we were all feeling much better after a good night's sleep. It's amazing what sleep in a nice hotel can do for the morale of a weary company of actors, crew and musicians.
Owensboro was nice It was a clean town on the Ohio River and there was not a meth clinic or bail bondsman to be found near the hotel OR the theatre. I did a little shopping across the street before jumping in a cab with Matt to go down the the theatre. Matt teched the Annie tour here and knew this Mexican restaurant he was looking forward to eating at. We had a nice lunch overlooking the river and snapped a pic. The bridge behind us crosses the Ohio River into Indiana.
Refreshed, even through Owensboro was a one-off, we were as ready as we could be for the next long trip to a two-show single day in Binghamton, NY. More on that next time!
Today's Meet the Cast featuree is Michelle Seipel. Michelle plays Mrs. Bedwin and also covers Mrs. Sowerberry and myself. She also plays the flute in our orchestra. Michelle is an opera singer breaking into musicals. I'd say a national tour is a nice start! Michelle is 30 and from Wisconsin. She is Ashley's roommate and they are well matched. She is a really lovely girl with a beautiful voice.
