WOW! So we left New London and headed to NYC to pick up the rest of the company that had gone home for the short layoff. We had a 5:30 a.m. bus call, got to NYC around 9:00 and headed to Huntington, WV. It ended up being a 16 hour trip in total. I don't travel well as my poor husband could tell you and with a new driver who's hard on the brakes and a new company manager with her fourteen-month-old baby plus just being cooped up for so long I lost my mind by the end. Spencer, the baby, is a very good natured little boy; very smiley and chatty but baby voices carry and it made it hard to sleep for any length of time. I was seriously off my rocker by the time we got to our hotel that night. Erin and I have these toy guns and we were firing them all day. Anyway, the hotel was sparingly outfitted but clean and I was happy to see a bed. Matt and I got some take out and came back to our room for some quiet time watching TV then went to bed early.
Wednesday Erin and Ashley and I went to the local mall to kill some time. There wasn't much to do in Huntington! Trying to save money to help out at home I didn't buy anything but some acidopholous from GNC per the CT doctor for my tummy since the antibiotic killed all bacteria in my body including the good ones. I did get a Starbucks with a gift card Mike had given me for our anniversary and was happy with that treat.
Wednesday night we had our one-off and the crew warned us in advance it was another tiny theatre. The backstage was not quite as bad as New London but close. We had an under the stage crossover which usually makes things a little hairy but the crew was nice and the dressers were decent. The theatre itself was really cool. It's another one of those old converted theatres. Huntington is home to Marshall University as in "We Are Marshall" where the entire football team was killed in a plane crash in the early 70's. The movie was premiered at the Albee theatre and renovated for that event specifically. Then they decided they had this beautiful place now and started bringing in Broadway tours. I'm posting multiple pictures below so you can see this place. The ceiling in the theatre was wired with "stars" that actually twinkle and they even had some of the constellations up there like the dippers. Very cool! The show went ok and I finally had some voice back although a lot of the cast are fighting illness. Erin couldn't do the Strawberry Seller part of her track (multiple parts played in a show) in "Who Will Buy?" so Ashley stepped in and did a great job (pic of Ashley below rehearsing during sound check). Will plays the doctor in act two and the rubber tip on one of the ear plugs of his stethoscope fell off and his ear was punctured by the metal so they did take him to the ER afterwards to make sure he was alright. They pulled a tiny shard of metal out of his ear and he was scratched a little but there was no damage to his eardrum and he's feeling fine.
The theatre league threw us a nice little reception at a club/bar a couple doors down and we enjoyed some free wine and beer and a little nosh. It was an early night though and we all went back to our rooms and went to bed as we had another early bus call Thursday morning for Toledo. That's where I am now until Monday morning.
