It's closing weekend muthafuckas!!! As I sit here I am in between shows on Saturday with just 3 left to go. It seemed like this contract would never end. Mike is here now and watching the Yankees vs. Red Sox game on the sofa in our ghetto apartment and I am trying to stay awake by blogging.
Until Thursday we had really low attendance for the show and sometimes felt like we outnumbered the audience. Now we are sold out, thank god. Mike saw the show last night. He had heard so much about this experience that he expected a really awful show but says he enjoyed it and it's a lot better than we think it is which is on par with what we've heard from other people. He enjoyed seeing me get a pie to the face for sure.
We've had a lot of family members visit lately. Al, Alishia and Mara all had their parents come down to visit. Sadly, Al and Alishia's mics both died and they never got replaced. It's not like they had solos or anything as they are dancers in the show but it still sucks. We've had a ton of sound problems. The entire board died at one point and it was replaced but mics are still dying. Mara's (Mabel) died in the middle of act one and there's not enough time to swap hers out since she's onstage all the time so they sent her out with a handheld, yes...a handheld...until act two. It was RIDICULOUS!!!
The cold I had has been spreading. I got it from Skids. Last week Casey, Al and Kelly all had it. The boys seem to have escaped it.
Onstage shenanigans continue and are getting worse as we go. The baby got stuck in the rafters again during Keystone Kops. Casey got tangled in the strands of the rain curtain during the big tap number entrance and she almost strangled herself. Lauren totally blanked on the tap number and was doing the wrong tap break. And senioritis is spreading with everyone eager to leave the show. Ad libs are nuts. I keep breaking during freezes. I can't wait to see what the closing show is like!
We've had out fair share of fun too. Tuesday afternoon we went to the beach. Tuesday night we had an identity crisis party where we all put our names in a hat and then each drew a name to see who we would be at the party. I was Skids and I was glad because I had her down pretty easy. Maureen was me and sat there in my Ogunquit hat, T-Rex tee and yoga pants acting like she was spaced out on Ambien. Chris was Mara, Mara was Chris. Chris went all out going so far as to shave part of his chest so he could wear one of her low cut dresses. Justin was Al and had bandages and blood all over himself to poke fun at her numerous injuries. We had a great tine. Wednesday night me and some of the girls went bowling at this really sketchy bowling alley next door to the theatre. But we had the place almost to ourselves and it was cheap.
Today (Saturday) Mike and I had brunch w/ Greg and Sal. It was really great to get to spend more time with them and I'm so glad Mike got to see them too finally. Hopefully it won't be another 8 years before we see them again!
Please send love and good thoughts to Michelle whose father passed last week. Danny served his country and was a good man. Also Ashley is having to take things easy after the baby started giving her a hard time and trying to come way too soon. She is on medication and resting so he can cook as long as possible. Being Ashley's child he is one strong-willed fetus but we would like him to stay put until as close to his February due date as possible.
Well, I have to get back to the theatre but here's to the end of this contract! I won't miss the heat, humidity, bugs, theatre, show or housing. I WILL miss the new friends I made here. They truly made the experience bearable. I am thrilled to come home to my husband, pets, home and Autumn in the Northeast! Love to you all!
