That's really what it is. There was part one from when I left college to when I went to Wall Street, then my revived post Wall Street non-union career and now I start fresh with a shiny new Equity card. What exactly that will mean no one knows but I'm excited to try. I'll be getting seen by all new casting people starting Tuesday the 5th. I will stand in line in the Equity lounge and wait to present my card, receive a note card to fill out and get my number and appointment. It feels like I'm awaiting the first day of school.
Closing weekend went well all things considered. The show Saturday night was yet another exercise in what can go wrong will go wrong, at least at that theatre! The show started with Mack banging on an outside door by the audience and the Night Watchman character letting him in. I'm not sure how this is the first time this happened but an old man got up and let him in leaving the two actors thrown and it went from there. Pants split, the track skipped, mics died, lines were flubbed. It was one of those shows where you kind of give up and just laugh at it all. Closing day was the usual flurry of activity with notes and gifts and photo taking. Both shows were packed and we went out on a good note. We all went to Friday's for a drink then went back to the apartments. Eventually I said my goodbyes and Mike and I went to bed. No goodbyes from the producers. No instructions on what to do as we left like what to do with the keys. But at 8:30 a.m. the cleaning crew showed up as did the producer's wife expecting us all to clear out so they could clean everything out. Really? We closed Sunday night and we should be out by 8:30 the next morning. The theatre doesn't even transport people to the airport. I was very grateful for the new friends I made and the good times we had but I was happy to leave. Mike and I packed up my car and hit the road around 9:30.
We had a decent drive to our first stopover in Waycross, Georgia. We were near Okeefenokee Swamp. Yup, a big old swamp. I checked my GPS to find us a place for dinner and our choices were either within a mile or 30-some odd miles away. We grabbed dinner at a Ruby Tuesday and turned in early at the Hampton Inn. Tuesday morning we got up early for the long drive to Roanoke, Virginia to visit Mike's family. Mike now hates the GPS. It would give us a direction when Mike was trying to talk and he'd yell at it. I found it very entertaining. We arrived at Ashleigh and Barak's just after 7:00 and had a nice dinner with them and Bill and Linda. I'm afraid I wasn't great company as I was so tired and cranky from a day in the car. You all know what a bad traveler I am. I probably should have medicated like I do for flights. But after a meal and a little wine I was in better spirits. Later we headed over to Bill and Linda's house to stay the night. I hadn't seen the new house since they moved there from Northern Virginia over a year ago. It's very pretty and set back a way by a golf course. Every once in a while a golf cart goes whizzing by behind the house. It's nice and quiet and they have a lovely view of the mountains. We were happy to climb into the big cozy guest bed and pass out. In the morning Bill and Linda made a nice breakfast then we hit the road for the last leg of the trip. Unfortunately we had rainy weather the entire trip and it took us longer than it would have normally. It was so great to be home and see all the pets. I had been craving a pizza from our hometown place so we got one and went to bed pretty early. Thursday was Mike's last day off work and although we spent most of it running errands we had a nice day.
I've been baking, cooking, doing laundry and unpacking. Man, unpacking from four months away takes a lot of work! I'm taking the weekend to relax and spend time with the animals before I have to start life again. I have lots of cleaning and organizing to do and I have those auditions Tuesday. Until then I am enjoying the mountainous land of PA, the turning leaves and the crisp air. It's so good to be home!
