My first weekend at home was glorious. It was all about me snuggling in the living room with the dogs and catching up on TV in quiet. No twenty-somethings running around, no doors slamming.
Monday was a productive day. I went to Quest in the morning and had blood work done for an upcoming checkup with the doc. I went to Dr. Homza, my chiropractor, for maybe the best adjustment of my life. He got amazing movement out of my spine and I instantly felt so much better and it usually takes a few hours. I just laid there for a minute and he asked if I was ok and I told him I think I saw the face of God. He's used to me. Then I met Bex for lunch at Panera! I call Panera Fail though because I ordered broccoli cheese soup and had been looking forward to it but they called me up and told me they just ran out. Gah! I was supposed to go to NYC early Tuesday morning but the weather was bad and was supposed to continue through Tuesday so Mike and I both got the idea that maybe I should go in Monday. Michelle gave me the green light so I packed in a hurry and took off. On the way there I found out my friend Gail (Maria from SOM in Maine) was flying in as well and we would see each other in the morning. I got in around 9:00 and Michelle and I just hung out and caught up. I hadn't seen her since May I think so it was great to see her.
Tuesday morning I got up at 6:00 a.m., fixed my hair grabbed my bag and hopped on the train to the Equity Building. I was so tired but I was excited like the first day of school. This was my first official day as an Equity member hitting the auditions. I arrived at the lounge on the second floor, flashed my card so they'd let me in, and hopped on line. I was there for Annie at the Media Theatre which hardly anyone showed up for and the Riverside Theatre's '10-'11 season which was PACKED. I decided I'd better be on the Riverside line to make sure I got seen. I took a 9:30 appt. for Annie and a 10:10 for Riverside and I'm glad I left so much time in between because the Media Theatre people were late then slow seeing people. I went in and sang "Little Girls" and for so early in the morning it was pretty good. Nothing like belting your face off before 10 a.m. on 4 hours of sleep! I went back to my seat in the lounge and chatted with my friend Jason then Gail arrived. I was almost immediately lined up for Riverside. Now I talk too much which isn't news to you guys but it's my nervous tick/audition weakness. I recognize that I do it and I'm trying to work on it. Like the time I jumped up and down like a spaz at my Grinch tour audition. Lord. Well I did it again. I walked in the room, went to the accompanist and he looked up at me and smiled. He was the sweetest looking ginger gay in an orange and white gingham button down shirt and a bright green sweater vest and I said "You have the friendliest face I've ever seen". He smiled and posed and I felt like an asshole and went to the center of the room. Then I proceeded to babble to the auditors about Vince Pesce who choreographed Oliver! and is doing Guys and Dolls for them. I finally got to singing my song and it sounded good but I wanted to punch myself in the face for not controlling my nervousness. I came out and told Jason and Gail what I did and they thought it was hilarious. All three of us were done by 11:00. Gail had to get over to Telsey Casting for her appt. for the first national tour of South Pacific and told me I should audition too. I hadn't planned on it because the only role I could play is Bloody Mary who is Asian or something but she said the second cover is a big white girl so I figured what the hell. Jason and I walked over together. The call wasn't all that busy and I only had to wait an hour for an appt. and I was glad I went. Since I'm basically starting from scratch with most of the casting directors for union projects not knowing who I am it was a good idea to get seen by anyone at Telsey. I went in and was much more relaxed and able to be myself. It's amazing how much better you sing when you relax. She actually paid attention to me the whole time and had some very nice things to say. This was a required call which means they are not actually looking to fill any roles, they just have to have auditions every six months on these big production contracts per Equity. Anyway I was glad Gail talked me into going. Jason took off and Gail and I had lunch and caught up. I just love that girl! After that we went up to Lincoln Center because she'd never been so I introduced her to the library and all the sheet music! I found some new songs. I tend to find new songs and get the sheet music but never implement them into my book. I really need to get better about that. I spent the evening with Michelle and we watched "Glee" and "The Princess and the Frog" (I am in love with Bruno Campos now). Wednesday afternoon we packed up the car, got some bagels and drover out to her mom's place in Jersey. I got to see Carol (her mom) for a bit but had to head out because it was getting late. She sent me home with a loaf of pumpkin bread that smelled amazing for the entire car ride and Mike was super happy to have a slice as soon as I got home.
Now I'm finally getting back into my housewife routine and getting the house in order. It was due for a detailed Fall cleaning after being gone for four months. The animals are very happy to have both parents home and Jeter has even been hanging out downstairs with the dogs loose. Mike told me this had started happening while I was in Florida but I really had to see it to believe it. After 5 years he finally decides to come down among the dogs!
