We left Oklahoma City after our morning show and headed for Dallas. As we drove past Denton, the town where I went to college, I couldn't believe what I was seeing! Denton used to be this small town, very hickish but quaint. I hardly recognized it! So much construction has occurred with tons of shops and housing developments but I could still recognize the road to my old apartment and got to see the TWU towers rising up.
Sadly our dates in Dallas didn't work out so we had to take a pseudo layoff. We got double booked at the Majestic Theatre with the Russian Nutcracker (which I heard sucked by the way) and the venue went with them instead of us. However, instead of sending us to Waco for those days they put us up in a great hotel downtown and still paid our per diem so we got five days off in a great city and I got to see my family. Matt flew out to NYC for a final callback for the Drowsy Chaperone national tour so I had my room to myself Wednesday night. Everyone looked to me to show them around and Erin was
flying home to Ohio for a couple of days on Thursday morning so I took everyone to Cedar Springs, the main strip where the gay bars are and we went to the Roundup! I chose the Roundup because it's not only a gay bar but a gay COUNTRY bar where the dance floor is edged by a wooden corral type fence. The first time I went there I was astounded by the sea of cowboy hats all dancing together. This place is a riot! It was pretty slow being a weeknight but we had a great time anyway singing karaoke and having some local boys teach us how to two-step and line dance. Erin and I manage to make new friends everywhere we go so we didn't buy a drink for ourselves all night!
Thursday I took a train up to Plano where I went to school and where my parents live. Dad
picked me up and we grabbed some lunch before going back to the house where I commandeered the washing machine. I felt like I was in college bringing my laundry home but if I can save a few bucks I'll do it! I was really happy to see Mom and Dad since it had been almost two years. Between finances and me and Mike's schedules it's hard to get down to visit as much as we'd like. Mom and I went to see my grandfather who Mom moved down to Plano last January as he is 87 now. It was good to see him and he looks remarkably well but it was a bittersweet visit as this may well be the last time I ever see him. It's sad also because Mike has never met him and I wish he could have been able to come down. We talked and caught up and then Mom, Dad and I went to dinner at one of my favorite places there, the Black Eyed Pea. My best friend from high school, Kim, came over after dinner and hung out for a while. Friday Mom and I did some shopping, I got a (much needed) massage and then we went to dinner again that night as a family. Saturday we stopped and picked up Grandpa and he came along when Mom and Dad took me back down to the hotel. On the way we stopped at a shop called Candie's Dandies so I could pick up some gag congratulatory gifts for Matt who called me to tell me he did get the Drowsy tour and would be leaving us the following weekend. I got a bunch of edibles in the shape of the, um, male appendage and he loved them. I'll spare you further details!

He took me to dinner at the Spaghetti Warehouse in the West End section of Dallas and we had a great dinner and sat and talk for a couple of hours about everything. It was awesome to get some one on one time with Jeff as we're always in groups. I love this man to death and although I don't (yet) have a Meet the Crew feature I have to tell you about him. He's 25 and from Northern Virginia. Jeff is our Master Electrician and runs lights for the show. We frequently text during the show (shhhh don't tell). He and I are both only children and have
grown very close. He's just a really really good man and he's very loving and protective of me. I think Mike feels good that I have someone like him on tour with me to sort of take his place in that regard while I'm away from home. Mike and Jeff are a lot alike in many ways and I really hope he comes to visit so the guys can hang out. They'd be great football watching buddies! Late Saturday night our usual tour debauchery resumed when a bunch of us took the hotel shuttle down to Gator's bar in the West End for some drinks. I had forgotten, and Bryden reminded me, that Everclear is illegal in many states and now I know why. I was drinking the frozen concoction of lemonade and Everclear called a Lethal Weapon. Wooooooooooooooo! I don't entirely remember getting back to the hotel that night but I know we all had a great time out and you can see in the pic of me and Jeff that I was certainly feeling festive (as was he). Sunday was basically a repeat of Saturday except with different folks out with me and Jeff. We met a very colorful guy that fell in love with Ashley (and really, who wouldn't) and gave me his number to pass to her like we were in high school or something. This man who we call Ashley's Baby Daddy was 24, covered in tats, had two kids and was HAMMERED! He proceeded to tell me in a hushed tone "You know, I'm kinda glad how this election turned out even though I AM prejudiced cuz a black guy shot my mom". Ummm...really? Wow. Ashley got a winner. Needless to say she "lost" the number.
