Trolley Time!
Move over Kathy Griffin! Someone's life is far more "D List" than yours! Between Georgia, Carson, Rex and now Stefanie Powers my life has been one long summer camp on the D list and I wouldn't change a thing. And as I sit here writing George and Barbara Bush are here watching our evening show.
Thursday was another double. The next cast is Sunset Boulevard. Ogunquit has the regional premiere and stars Stefanie Powers (yes of 80's "Hart to Hart" fame) as Norma Desmond. We get to watch the designer run on Saturday morning and I'm looking forward to it. So they all came to the show Thursday night and were very supportive of us and made for a very fun show. Afterward they all came backstage to do a meet and greet with us. Stefanie is 68 and I have to say that while her body is amazing, the face work she has had done makes her look older than she is. Now granted she was still in her rehearsal garb with her hair pulled back and no makeup on but still. But she was very gracious. They all seemed to enjoy the show alot.
Friday I tried my best to relax and catch up on sleep and energy from the two doubles. Just did laundry, grocery shopping, stuff like that. Friday night Meg and Crista's agent came to the show. I'm really glad I didn't know in advance or I'd have been a mess. He is the head of one of the top agencies in NYC and he liked me and said I should send in my materials. It didn't hurt that Meg vouched for me! Meg has been such a mentor to me during this production and I'm very grateful.
Saturday brought some retail therapy and lunch at Chipotle in Portsmouth, New Hampshire which has the nearest mall. Ashley, Gail and I are working on a silly gift for Rex as congratulations on becoming a grandfather this coming spring so we went to Michael's. Ashley needed a dress for an event Sunday and I needed shoes. I found a cute pair on clearance for $11! I took a nice long nap before the night show because I barely slept Friday night for some reason. Too much wine maybe? I read that a little wine is good but too much can wreck your sleep. The show was good but the audience was in a coma. Usually audiences on Fridays and Saturday nights tend to be really good but here since most patrons are tourists they seem to be deflated from spending the day at the beach or from driving all day to get here. Our best houses are on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Sunday we only had a matinee but may as well have had two shows. I'm having a great time here but they sure do like to trot us out to schmooze. Sunday night was a special dinner party event with the principals and supporting cast. They teamed us up in groups of 3 to 4 and sent us to various board members' homes to dine with them and their guests, ostensibly to get donations to the theatre. So we got all dolled up and spent another 3 hours chatting with people and answering all of their questions. Gail, Ed and I went to one house together. The meal was delicious (or what I could eat was as they had steak and shrimp as a main course). The house and its view were gorgeous. One of the couple, Michael, is a muckety muck for Martha Stewart so this is one of three homes they own and he could cook up a storm. I got one of the recipes from him that is hers. It's a corn and zucchini fritter thing that was delicious and topped with a little goat cheese and chipotle sauce. OMG!!! After they took us back to the theatre where the entire cast, crew and everyone from all of the houses gathered in the big tent outside for champagne and dessert. Gail and I made a quick appearance just long enough for the bosses to see us there and then took off. We were just so tired from an eight show week and then having to be "on" for this dinner thing, we were just DONE.
Monday morning at 6 a.m. Ashley's fiancee arrived at our house to surprise her! He is stage managing in West Virginia and drove all night to come see her. He only got to stay until Tuesday afternoon so he didn't see the show but Ashley had been a little blue and this made her so happy. He's adorable and they are going to make ridiculously gorgeous babies together. Gail and I went to see "Despicable Me" and it was soooooo cute! I went home, did another load of laundry and relaxed until 7:00. Gail's husband Aaron had two days off from the Wicked tour and flew in to see her and watch the show Tuesday night and celebrate her birthday a little early. Monday night our company manager had arranged a so-called booze cruise down at Perkins Cove so I hopped a trolley down there and poked around a while until people started showing up. It was a nice mix of SOM and Sunset folks, both cast and crew. As time approached for us to board, a nasty storm kicked up so we went to a bar next door to wait out the storm. Iwas with the Sunset folks chatting. One of them, Brad, was leaving the show the next day because he literally Broadway called. He had auditioned for the national tour of Billy Elliott, didn't get it, and then the guy playing his role in New York broke his leg and has to be replaced for three months. He's like Shirley MacLaine! So we toasted him. This cast is quite seasoned. I was talking alot with a guy that I only knew as Sal. I googled him later because his name sounded familiar and turns out he was in the Bway company and was also Pirelli in the '82 video of Sweeney Todd with Angela Lansbury. And sorry Bryden, but he and another cast mate have done several L&Os and both said Chris Meloni and Mariskga Hargitay were awful to work with. I've always heard that off-set they are both lovely people. They said they aren't welcoming to the guest actors. Booooooo! But I digress! So it was a bunch of us and the boss and his partner and Stefanie Powers who told me to call her "Stef". Uhhhh, okay Mrs. Hart. The boss, Robert, bought me a drink when he saw I wasn't drinking. I told him I have a rule about drinking in front of the boss so he said "Nonsense!" and went to the bar and came back with a drink for me. After about an hour delay the storm finally passed although the sun had set by this time so so much for the sunset cruise! Still we boarded this little private yacht and had a lovely time! When we disembarked Stefanie headed to her car and asked if anyone needed a ride. It was kind of a long walk for me and it was dark so I took her up on her offer. It was just she and I in her car and dude, she drives like a bat out of hell! She's really nice though and we chatted on the short ride.

Tuesday was mostly uneventful except that I signed my Equity contract and became a proud new member of Actors' Equity Association! I am SO excited to start this new chapter in my career and can't wait to start hitting the good auditions finally! I just have to get through this one last non-equity contract in Florida first! Here are Adinah (my friend and our Equity deputy on this contract) and I with my shiny new contract.
It is now Wednesday before we close. The matinee went really well and was sold out. Apparently we're at standing room only all week. We returned from dinner to an announcement of a company meeting onstage at half hour where we were advised that George and Barbara Bush, their guests and their secret service would be in attandance tonight. We figure this would happen soon as they allegedly attend every show and are the theatre's top donors. They came back during intermission to meet everyone and take pics. I may not agree with their politics but I do appreciate they they are such huge supporters of theatre. They attend theatre all over the country and always here in Maine since they summer in Kennebunkport. They were very nice and Barbara said "Oh! You're the funny one! You're just great!". Here are pics already! I love the digital age.

Rexy quote of the week:
I was standing in the hall looking at this website about bad tattoos that Ian had up on his computer. Check it out when you have a chance, it's pretty funny. So I'm standing there chatting with Rex and I asked if had any ink and I said no. We talked about mine and then he threw out this gem, "I thought about getting a top hat tattooed on the end of my dick once but then I thought that might hurt." Direct quote. http://ugliesttattoos.com/
