| Jeter helps me blog |
Work is still going pretty well. I am pretty much left to work independently which I enjoy. I am down to jeans or khakis and sneakers, no makeup and my hair pulled back in a headband (while it grows back out) though I try to look less schlubby on Tuesdays and Thursdays when I visit the home office and the Department of General Services on my mail run. But they told me I didn't need to keep dressing up. We don't get many visitors over here. So I am happy to be comfy.
One thing I love about this sabbatical is actually owning my appearance! I get to not only paint my nails but to do crazy stuff with them. I tried to put a purple streak back in my hair but, much to Mike's delight I'm sure, my hair is now so healthy it won't soak up the color anymore.
I am continuing to enjoy getting ridiculous deals on my shopping trips. Last week $42 worth of stuff for $13 and then got $9 back in Extra Care Bucks, which I then used to get $23 worth of stuff for free. So we are stocked up with nearly a year's worth of shampoo, conditioner and shave cream (for me), and six months of toothpaste, deodorant and body wash. I told Mike I feel like anything beyond a year's worth is too much like those extreme coupon ladies who have a stockpile like they know something we don't about an all out nuclear war, so if I can get more free stuff in the interim I'll donate it to the battered women's shelter that I donate clothes and toiletries to once a year. I actually paid full price for my favorite hummus last week and it pissed me off!
Mike and I had our eye exams last night. I was excited to go because I haven't had new glasses in four years and I am ready for a change. I've also gotten more farsighted so I needed them anyway. I can't wait for them to come in; they are green and black metallic and a fun shape and have those transitions lenses that adjust to sunlight.
I'm stoked for this weekend! I'm headed into New York for a baby shower for Michelle's friend Kim then out to Long Island to see my friend Gail's production of Sunset Boulevard (hooray for comps!) with our friends Ashley, Robert and Alan. It's a big Ogunquit Playhouse reunion and I can't wait! And of course I look forward to spending Sunday with Michelle and catching up. I'll try to remember my camera and post some pics. It's funny; somehow three months away from NYC feels like an eternity.
Grown-up life continues to have its challenges. Mike's car gave us a scare. Malaki needs surgery on his paw for what the vet said he thinks is a foreign body so there's $700 we don't have. Our water pressure is acting up in the house and has to be dealt with. And now I'm working on paying off our huge tax bill for 2010 taxes. At least the IRS allows very fair payment plans. So basically every time I go to put money in savings for a NYC sublet, something happens that derails my good intentions. At least with me working it's not as painful as it would be since I am able to help pick up some extra expenses at home. And speaking of stress...
I'm only a couple of appointments into my time with my shrink (Dr. Getz) but so far so good. I kinda had a meltdown last week when I showed up for my appointment and the receptionist had screwed something up and they had no record of it and someone else was scheduled in my place. I was PISSED. Especially since I've started having the odd panic attack and really wanted to discuss it with him. Alas I have to wait until this Thursday. In the interim my doc has now upped my Zoloft twice and I'm at 150 mg of crazy pills and she gave me a small prescription for Ativan (the breakfast of champions) for when I start to have a panic attack to try and stave it off. It sucks. I guess I've worked so hard to push down all of my feelings that they are now just kind of coming out uncontrolled. Poor Mike. I don't think I've flipped out on him too bad though.
Well, my lunch break is almost up so I have to get back to it!
